First Look at David Harbour as Hellboy With His Right Hand of Doom

The first image from the upcoming “” remake is unleashed. Wearing a full makeup and costume, “” actor David Harbour channels the demonic hero with two chopped-off horns on his forehead.

The 42-year-old actor is unrecognizable in the picture released on Facebook. He’s shirtless, showing off his red skin as he’s clutching a gun in his left hand and having an oversized stone hand in his right or better known as the Right Hand of Doom.

The reboot will be directed by Neil Marshall (“”, “”, “”). The project was announced after attempts to follow up the original two movies fell apart. The threequel had been in development for a long time before it was killed off due to budget issues.

The first Hellboy movie came out in 2004 and quickly gained a cult following. A sequel called “” was released four years later. Harbour assumed the role originated by in the Guillermo del Toro films.

is expected to play the hero’s love interest Alice Monaghan, a woman saved from fairies. is added as the demonic hero’s adoptive father Professor Trevor Broom, joins the cast members as the villanious Blood Queen, and Penelope Mitchell as elder witch Ganeida.

is to play Major Ben Daimio, a Japanese-American member of The Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. English actor was originally attached to the role but he backed out over whitewashing controversy.

“I accepted the role unaware that the character in the original comics was of mixed Asian heritage. There has been intense conversation and understandable upset since that announcement, and I must do what I feel is right,” the actor said. “Therefore I have decided to step down so the role can be cast appropriately.”

Meanwhile, the producers defended themselves, “It was not our intent to be insensitive to issues of authenticity and ethnicity, and we will look to recast the part with an actor more consistent with the character in the source material.”
